Inpatient Alcohol Rehab & Alcoholism Treatment Raleigh NC
In 2019, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services released some disturbing information about alcoholism, labeling it "the third leading preventable cause of death in North Carolina" and pointing out that "excessive drinking has been trending upward based on data from 2012-2017." In addition, 30 percent of North Carolina adults reported binge drinking in the previous 30 days, and 11 percent reported drinking heavily. Like the rest of the country, resident of North Carolina — and by extension, those who live in or near Raleigh — have a love affair with alcohol, but what can they do when it crosses over into problem drinking?
Fortunately for those who live in or near Raleigh, one of the most reputable alcoholism treatment centers in the country is located five hours to the west, just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, only 20 miles from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Cornerstone of Recovery was founded by a recovering alcoholic in 1989, and over the past three decades, we've built his vision into a place that's so much more than just another alcohol rehab. We provide a continuum of care that's unrivaled in the Southeast, and we accept patients from across the region — including many seeking alcoholism treatment in or near Raleigh.
Their journey begins in our medically supervised detox program, which helps them safely and comfortably wean from the devastating physical withdrawals that can accompany stopping drinking. Afterward, they'll enter one of our four residential inpatient treatment programs: Newcomers, for individuals seeking alcoholism treatment for the first time; Recovery Renewal, specifically designed for those who have previous alcohol rehab stays or periods of abstinence but have been unable to remain sober; Young Adult, for men ages 18 to 26; and our unique Women's Program, a safe haven for females who need their own place in which to process the issues that can accompany their alcoholism.
We're in network with most private and commercial insurance policies, and we do it all out of a 25 acre, four facility campus that opened in 2017 and includes amenities that make our patients' stays as comfortable and engaging as possible. From physical exercise in our state-of-the-art fitness center to meals on the patio of the dining hall overlooking the Little River to multiple treatment modalities to dual diagnosis treatment for those with co-occurring mental health issues, we work to be so much more than an alcohol rehab. We're a place for individuals from Raleigh to seek a new way of life, free of the bondage of alcohol.

What People Are Saying About Us
the first step to the rest of your life starts at cornerstone of recovery
We’ve been in the business of treatment for addiction and alcoholism for almost 30 years, and in our early days, we even did treatment just over the state line in North Carolina. Now, we’re located on a single four-facility campus just outside of Knoxville, and we’re the largest residential alcohol and drug rehab in the state of Tennessee. Our enormous growth since 1989 is a direct result of our success in treating addicts and alcoholics; in other words, we know what we’re doing, and what we’re doing is changing lives.
Alcoholism & Drug Addiction Treatment Programs
You can be one of those lives changed. We recognize that it’s difficult to do anything about your problem when you’re trapped in the quicksand of the consequences it’s created, which is why we encourage you to consider getting out of the Raleigh area to get clean and learn how to live a fulfilling life in recovery.
We have the therapeutic tools to help you do that – proven clinical approaches that help you process trauma and issues that preceded your alcoholism as well as those exacerbated or caused by it, and we do so in one of four primary treatment programs:
Newcomers Inpatient Program
Clinically, the Newcomers Residential Alcohol & Drug Rehab Program is inpatient based and typically lasts between 28 and 35 days, during which time our trained counselors and other professionals develop individual treatment plans for each patient according to needs, backgrounds and situations. During that process, patients participate in a 12-Step recovery.
Young Adult Inpatient Program
Our Young Adult Residential rehab and recovery program is specifically structured for persons between the ages of 18 and 26. Understanding that this age group faces its own unique set of circumstances, our clinical staff focuses on developmental issues, behavior styles, and energy levels specific to the young adult.
Recovery Renewal Inpatient Program
Intensive residential inpatient program for those who have tried to stay clean in the past but been unsuccessful, even after exposure to an addiction treatment program and 12 step programs in the past. It’s designed to help patients target the triggers and issues that factor into their inability to stay clean and the factors that lead to a relapse
Women Only Inpatient Program
Cornerstone recognizes that women face issues in addiction and alcoholism that are unique to them. Clinically, the Womens' Programs is inpatient based and typically lasts between 28 and 35 days, during which time therapies are carried out within the safe space of a women’s only program. Group therapy, individual counseling, activity therapy, acceptance/integration therapy – they’re all designed for both the individual and the gender.
The Program Includes
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Typically our Inpatient Programs last between 28-35 days. This is considered pretty standard within the treatment industry. In cases where the patient does not feel confident in returning home right away, there are longer term treatment options.
Would simply extend the patient's inpatient status for additional time until they felt they were ready to return to a normal life.
The patient would enroll into our Sober Living Facility (SLF) and then attend our Intensive Outpatient Program. This would give them some responsibilites and allow for them to tip a toe back into regular daily routines. There would be several other patients living within the home who are doing the exact same thing, but who are typically at a different place in their recovery journey.
During your stay in Medical Detox, you’ll be assessed every four hours by nursing staff, who will monitor vital signs like your blood pressure, temperature and pulse oximetry; if warranted by our staff medical director, you may also be prescribed certain medications to make the process more comfortable, including:
- For benzodiazepine and alcohol withdrawal, we prescribe Phenobarbital;
- For opiate withdrawal, we tend to use Subutex, Robaxin and/or Clonidine;
- For cocaine, we utilize Bromocriptine.
While in Medical Detox, you’ll also be provided with three delicious and nourishing meals a day and be given an opportunity to attend an orientation group, an evening wrap-up meeting and other therapeutic sessions to ease you into the routine of community-oriented treatment.
Ultimately, however, you’re given ample opportunity to relax, recharge and allow your body and mind time to heal themselves before you’re integrated into a treatment community of peers. A typical detox stay is three to five days, but depending on the severity of a patient’s symptoms, it may require more time. Our goal is to provide you with that time while keeping tabs on your physical well-being and ensuring that your stay is as comfortable and safe as possible.
That depends entirely on your situation. Unfortunately, there really isn't a cookie cutter response that covers each patients unique scenario. We have done our best to answer as much information about insurance options, private pay and out of pocket expeses on the page linked below.
The goal of Cornerstone of Recovery’s treatment model is to help individuals who are suffering from substance abuse and related problems find healing and, ultimately, ongoing recovery. This is accomplished through a process of assessment and treatment planning that attempts to determine the nature and extent of the substance use disorder as well as any co-occurring disorders that significantly impact the person and interfere with his or her ability to accomplish life goals. We believe in the value of the individual and strive to support each person on his or her unique journey toward health and life satisfaction.
A number of modalities, techniques and approaches are used to accomplish these goals. Foremost among these is our belief in developing a therapeutic community in which the individual can safely identify and work through the issues and problems that have brought them into treatment.
Some examples of the therapies are listed below and you can learn more about each of them by clicking them.
Cornerstone of Recovery permits the use of tobacco in designated areas outside of the building; you must bring your own cigarettes/snuff for the duration of your stay.
