Inpatient Drug Rehab & Addiction Treatment Asheville NC

On the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains, there's a place where hope thrives. Those who suffer from drug addiction will find it at Cornerstone of Recovery, an addiction treatment program that's been providing drug and alcohol treatment services since 1989. Two hours away from Asheville, N.C., we offer substance abuse treatment to individuals from all walks of life who are struggling with addiction, and our philosophy is based on a firm belief that those who suffer aren't bad people trying to become good; they're sick people who need to get well.

Our long-term approach to addiction treatment begins with safe, medically supervised detox, followed by residence in one of our four primary rehab programs. During their stay, patients receive receive the most effective scientific, education and holistic approaches to recovery, from one-on-one counseling, peer support, group therapy, educational lectures, fitness, activity therapy and more. At our recovery center, we believe in a "whole person" approach to drug and alcohol addiction — healing the body, mind and spirit so that individuals who come to us broken and defeated can stop using, lose the desire to do so and find a new way to live.

the first step to the rest of your life starts at cornerstone of recovery

Many treatment centers offer a standard regimen of addiction treatment, but our approach is unique. We combine traditional 12 Step-based fundamentals with evidence-based psycho-therapeutic tools that help individuals understand the nature of their affliction, and the reasons they continue to return to drugs and alcohol in the face of negative consequences.

Many of our treatment approaches are mirrored in other rehab centers, but at Cornerstone, you'll have opportunities you won't find anywhere else. From our on-campus ropes course to strengthen trust and team-building, to trauma therapy with trained clinicians, to our family therapy weekends that offer support and education for family members of addicts and alcoholics, you'll have the opportunity to build a better version of yourself than you ever imagined possible.

North Carolina Outreach Manager

Jess Gupton Shares Her Recovery Story

As Cornerstone of Recovery’s North Carolina Regional Outreach Manager, Jess Gupton often finds herself sharing her personal story of experience, strength and hope.

Her job takes her from her home in Asheville, which she shares with her partner, Vanessa; to Charlotte and beyond. She works closely with North Carolina businesses and companies to introduce Cornerstone’s proven track record of successful addiction treatment into new markets and industries. Her position involves a great deal of networking and establishment of new business contacts, but the most rewarding part of it, she says, is the time she spends with patients.

As Cornerstone’s primary point of contact in North Carolina, she’s often the face of Cornerstone to those who come to our 23-acre campus near Knoxville, Tenn., for residential addiction treatment. She’s a testament to the almost 30-year track record Cornerstone has of successfully delivering addicts and alcoholics from the depths of despair into the light of recovery, a path she knows all too well. By the time she found it herself in 2012, she was at the end of the road.

At Cornerstone, all new patients are screened by our Assessment and Orientation counselors, who will work closely to develop an individual recovery plan of action. Based on a series of questionnaires, substance use history and other factors, clients are given a detailed treatment plan that takes into account the needs of every individual.

After a period of safe, medically monitored detox — usually lasting three to five days — all patients will be assigned to one of four primary treatment programs:

Newcomers Residential Program

Clinically, the Newcomers Inpatient Program is one that typically lasts between 28 and 35 days, during which time our trained counselors and other professionals develop individual treatment plans for each patient according to needs, backgrounds and situations. During that process, patients participate in a 12-Step recovery.

Young Adult Residential

Our Young Adult Residential rehab and recovery program is specifically structured for persons between the ages of 18 and 26. Understanding that this age group faces its own unique set of circumstances, our clinical staff focuses on developmental issues, behavior styles, and energy levels specific to the young adult.

Recovery Renewal Program

Intensive residential program for those who have tried to stay clean in the past but been unsuccessful, even after exposure to an addiction treatment program and 12 step programs in the past. It’s designed to help patients target the triggers and issues that factor into their inability to stay clean and the factors that lead to a relapse.

Women's Drug Rehab Program

Offers female patients a safe place in which to process issues specific to their gender. The program is similar in nature to the Newcomers programs but specifically tailored to the specific and unique needs of our female population.

After the completion of Residential Inpatient Treatment, clients will then have the opportunity to transition into Intensive Outpatient, a 10-week series of four-day-a-week groups that add another layer to the safety net of early recovery. While on campus, patients will stay with us as part of our Sober Living community, where they establish bonds of support with peers and receive an opportunity to volunteer in the larger recovery and philanthropic community of which Cornerstone is a part.

Why Consider Leaving Asheville For Treatment

It's not easy, coming to terms with addiction. It's even harder to ask for help. Many times, addicts and alcoholics fool themselves into believing that they can "tough it out" or handle it on their own ... only to find that the scope of their problem is too overwhelming to do so. That can be disheartening, even devastating, which is why it's sometimes beneficial, or even necessary, to get away from the place in which you feel stuck.

By leaving Asheville and North Carolina altogether, those who struggle with addiction can get away from the surroundings that may make it difficult to get clean and stay clean. In East Tennessee, free of the triggers and people that are so closely intertwined with your active addiction, you can call a time out. Throughout your time here at Cornerstone, removed from the pressures of home, you can get back on your feet, deal with your problem and acquire a new set of coping skills that will allow you to return home, when the time is right, able to face life on its own terms without the need to use drugs and alcohol.
