Inpatient Drug Rehab & Addiction Treatment Asheville NC
Last year, commissioners of Buncombe County, North Carolina — home to Asheville — received some grim updates about the addiction epidemics. Between 2015 and 2017, overdose deaths in the county tripled, and overdose visits to the emergency room increased by 25 percent from the first quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019. While the city isn't unique in its struggle with drugs, the need for quality addiction treatment for those who live in or near Asheville is as pressing as ever.
Fortunately, there's an unconventional drug rehab that offers nationally respected addiction treatment just on the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains. Those who want a way out of addiction's shadow will find it at Cornerstone of Recovery, an addiction treatment program that's been providing a new way to live for addicts seeking recovery since 1989. Two hours away from Asheville, N.C., we offer substance abuse treatment to individuals from all walks of life who are struggling with addiction, and our philosophy is based on a firm belief that those who suffer aren't bad people trying to become good; they're sick people who need to get well.
Our long-term approach to addiction treatment begins with safe, medically supervised detox, followed by residence in one of our four primary drug rehab programs: Newcomers, for first-time treatment seekers; Recovery Renewal, for those who have relapsed after periods of abstinence or previous attempts at addiction treatment; Young Adult, a more engaging program for men ages 18 to 26; and our unique Women's Program, in which female patients can process the issues, traumas and problems unique to their gender. During their stay, patients receive receive the most effective scientific, education and holistic approaches to recovery, from one-on-one counseling, peer support, group therapy, educational lectures, fitness in our state-of-the-art fitness center, activity therapy and dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders by our psychiatric team. If both parties are willing, we'll get your family involved in the treatment process as well through family therapy sessions, including a weekend of on-campus lectures, meetings and support groups.
We do it all from the comfort of our spacious and modern four facility campus located on 25 acres, to which we moved in 2017. When Cornerstone was first started in 1989, we began as a small, 18-bed facility, and today we've grown into one of the largest addiction treatment providers in Tennessee. But while our size has increased, our mission is the same. We believe in a "whole person" approach to addiction treatment — healing the body, mind and spirit so that individuals who come to us broken and defeated can stop using, lose the desire to do so and find a new way to live. We're in network with most private and commercial insurance plans, and over the years we've treated hundreds of individuals from the Asheville area. Many of them return home with a commitment to recovery they won't find anywhere else, which makes Cornerstone so much more than just another drug rehab.
What People Are Saying About Us
the first step to the rest of your life starts at cornerstone of recovery
Many treatment centers offer a standard regimen of addiction treatment, but our approach is unique. We combine traditional 12 Step-based fundamentals with evidence-based psycho-therapeutic tools that help individuals understand the nature of their affliction, and the reasons they continue to return to drugs and alcohol in the face of negative consequences.
Many of our treatment approaches are mirrored in other rehab centers, but at Cornerstone, you'll have opportunities you won't find anywhere else. From our on-campus ropes course to strengthen trust and team-building, to trauma therapy with trained clinicians, to our family therapy weekends that offer support and education for family members of addicts and alcoholics, you'll have the opportunity to build a better version of yourself than you ever imagined possible.

Alcoholism & Drug Addiction Treatment Programs
Cornerstone has developed alcohol and drug rehab & recovery programs to fit the needs of our patients. As with many things in life, there is not a one size fits all approach to treating the addiction disease. Through a proper assessment and evaluation period, Cornerstone of Recovery can make the best recommendation for each individual that will give them the best opportunity to achieve a lasting recovery.
Newcomers Inpatient Program
Clinically, the Newcomers Residential Alcohol & Drug Rehab Program is inpatient based and typically lasts between 28 and 35 days, during which time our trained counselors and other professionals develop individual treatment plans for each patient according to needs, backgrounds and situations. During that process, patients participate in a 12-Step recovery.
Young Adult Inpatient Program
Our Young Adult Residential rehab and recovery program is specifically structured for persons between the ages of 18 and 26. Understanding that this age group faces its own unique set of circumstances, our clinical staff focuses on developmental issues, behavior styles, and energy levels specific to the young adult.
Recovery Renewal Inpatient Program
Intensive residential inpatient program for those who have tried to stay clean in the past but been unsuccessful, even after exposure to an addiction treatment program and 12 step programs in the past. It’s designed to help patients target the triggers and issues that factor into their inability to stay clean and the factors that lead to a relapse
Women Only Inpatient Program
Cornerstone recognizes that women face issues in addiction and alcoholism that are unique to them. Clinically, the Womens' Programs is inpatient based and typically lasts between 28 and 35 days, during which time therapies are carried out within the safe space of a women’s only program. Group therapy, individual counseling, activity therapy, acceptance/integration therapy – they’re all designed for both the individual and the gender.

Why Consider Leaving Asheville For Treatment
It's not easy, coming to terms with addiction. It's even harder to ask for help. Many times, addicts and alcoholics fool themselves into believing that they can "tough it out" or handle it on their own ... only to find that the scope of their problem is too overwhelming to do so. That can be disheartening, even devastating, which is why it's sometimes beneficial, or even necessary, to get away from the place in which you feel stuck.
By leaving Asheville and North Carolina altogether, those who struggle with addiction can get away from the surroundings that may make it difficult to get clean and stay clean. In East Tennessee, free of the triggers and people that are so closely intertwined with your active addiction, you can call a time out. Throughout your time here at Cornerstone, removed from the pressures of home, you can get back on your feet, deal with your problem and acquire a new set of coping skills that will allow you to return home, when the time is right, able to face life on its own terms without the need to use drugs and alcohol.
