Inpatient Drug Rehab & Addiction Treatment Charlotte NC
North Carolina, like the rest of the country, is in a protracted struggle against the tide of addiction. It's a much-publicized battle that claimed more than 68,000 lives in 2018, the same year that a Duke University team published a study with troubling results for North Carolina and, by extension, the residents of the Charlotte area: The state experienced an 800 percent increase in opioid drug deaths from 1999 to 2016, and heroin overdoses have grown 10-fold in North Carolina since 2010. There are plenty of resources in the Charlotte area pushing back against those numbers, but none of them offer addiction treatment quite like a certain facility four hours to the west.
Cornerstone of Recovery, located just on the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains outside of Knoxville, is so much more than just another drug rehab. Since 1989, we've grown from a small, 18-bed facility to one of the largest residential treatment providers in the state of Tennessee, operating off of a 25-acre campus onto which we moved in 2017 where we occupy four new facilities on the banks of the Little River. From our modern and comfortable residence hall to our dining facilities that serve three hot meals a day to our state-of-the-art fitness center, we offer addiction treatment that combines traditional 12 Step-based methods with innovative evidence-based therapeutic modalities, all of it designed with a singular purpose: to give the patients who come to us from across the country the best possible chance at sustained recovery from addiction.
Their journeys begin in our safe, medically supervised detox unit, where after 3 to 5 days, they'll transition to one of our four addiction treatment paths: Newcomers, for first-time drug rehab patients who will learn about their affliction in addition to recovering from it; Recovery Renewal, for those who have been to addiction treatment previously or who have relapsed after periods of abstinence; Young Adult, for men ages 18 to 26 who need some life direction as well as addiction recovery; and our Women's Program, a sisterhood of women who empower one another even as they recover from the issues, traumas and challenges that accompany their addiction.
Within those programs, patients will receive one-on-one counseling, an opportunity for family therapy with loved ones — including a weekend in our immersive Family Fundamentals program, a two-day course that helps heal the rifts caused by addiction — 12 Step facilitation, peer support, educational lectures and more. We encourage both Fitness and Activity Therapy, we evaluate every patient for dual diagnosis of co-occurring mental health issues and provide appropriate psychiatric treatment, and we help patients develop a solid and specific aftercare plan that will help them continue their recovery journey after they leave addiction treatment.
We do all of that and more, because while abstinence is the goal, addiction recovery is about so much more. And because we're in network with most commercial and private health insurance plans, we accept patients from across the country — including many who live in or near Charlotte and are in need of addiction treatment.
the first step to the rest of your life starts at cornerstone of recovery
Cornerstone of Recovery is roughly 230 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina, but sometimes a distance of hours and miles makes all the difference in the world for those requiring treatment for drug addiction. With a nationwide reputation for as one of the top rehab centers in the country, begin each patient's journey with an individualized treatment plan that identifies their specific needs.
Our goal is to treat the underlying physical, mental, emotional and spiritual maladies that contribute to, precipitate and were caused by addiction, because if recovery were simply a matter of putting down the drugs and walking away, our services would be unnecessary. Addiction, however, is a disease, and those who suffer from it continue to use in spite of negative consequences.
At Cornerstone, wherever you fall on the scale, we have a program to meet your needs, and treatment services and therapies that will help address the life traps and stumbling blocks that have kept you in a vicious cycle of drug use for so long.
Inpatient Drug Rehab Programs Available
After an initial intake by our Assessment and Orientation team, during which time patients will determine the program focuses needed for successful completion of treatment, clients transition quickly into medical detox, where they're safely weaned from the drugs in their system through a combination of medication therapy, rest and minimal stress. Detox usually lasts three to five days, during which time patients are kept as comfortable as possible, followed by entry into one of our four primary treatment programs:
Newcomers Residential Program
Over the course of 28 to 35 days, patients in our Newcomers Addiction Treatment Program learn more about the disease process in addition to learning coping skills that help them combat it. Our therapists, counselors and staff members, many of whom are in addiction recovery themselves, help those individuals learn that they're not "bad" people who need to be "good" — they're sick people who need to get better.
Young Adult Residential
The Young Adult Addiction Treatment Program is designed for men ages 18 to 26 who need education, structure, vocational training and more robust hands-on therapy to get back on track. In this age group, addiction has often derailed life before its truly begun, but we help them find the direction they need to succeed on the other side of it.
Recovery Renewal Program
Relapse isn't a requirement, but it does happen, and those who have relapsed after extended periods of abstinence, or after previous trips through drug rehab, often feel defeated and demoralized. In our Recovery Renewal Addiction Treatment Program, we help them uncover and deal with issues that are stumbling blocks to long-term addiction recovery, so that their defeats can become success stories.
Women's Drug Rehab Program
Our unique Women's Only Addiction Treatment Program is an exclusive female treatment path in which women find a safe and supportive sisterhood where they can process traumas and events surrounding addiction that are unique to their gender. It's a program designed specifically for women and led by female counselors and therapists that's both healing and empowering.
After residential inpatient treatment, patients have the opportunity to transition into our Intensive Outpatient treatment program, a four-day-a-week, three-hours-a-day continuing program of therapy that adds another layer to the safety net of recovery. As part of IOP, they reside in one of our Support Living facilities, attend classes and group on campus each day and slowly earn privileges like cell phones and vehicles as their work progresses and their recovery grows.

Why Consider Leaving Charlotte For Treatment
Whether you come to Cornerstone of Recovery in need of addiction treatment or an outpatient program, you'll find that it's easier to concentrate on the task at hand if you're removed from a place so closely associated with your using. While many Charlotte residents with addiction problems can and do recover in their hometown, many others find it beneficial to call a "time out," so to speak, on their lives.
By relocating to Knoxville and becoming an active part of the recovery community at Cornerstone of Recovery, they've removed themselves from triggers and temptations associated with the place in which they did so much of their using.
An extended stay as part of our inpatient and outpatient programs gives patients all the time they need to stop using, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live, so that when they time comes and they feel ready, they can return to Charlotte prepared to use the tools of recovery to stay clean and live productive, fulfilling lives.
