Alcoholism Treatment & Alcohol Rehab Chattanooga TN
According to 2016 data from County Health Rankings compiled by the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Department of Health, more than one out of every five Hamilton County residents — 21 percent — admits to binge drinking or heavy drinking. While not everyone who drinks heavily is an alcoholic, every alcoholic is someone who drinks heavily, and those figures leave little room to doubt that there are many people who live in or near Chattanooga that need comprehensive alcoholism treatment.
Fortunately for those individuals, there's a nationally respected alcohol rehab less than two hours to the north via Interstate 75. Cornerstone of Recovery was founded in 1989, and over the past three decades, we've grown into one of the largest residential treatment providers in the state, accepting patients from across Tennessee — including many from Chattanooga who just need to get away for a while in order to get sober. They'll find sobriety and more on our picturesque, four facility campus, located on 25 acres between Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We moved here in 2017, and it's our privilege to provide modest-yet-modern accommodations to those who come to us for help, whether they're sleeping in the rooms of our residence tower to eating meals in our dining hall overlooking the water to working out in our state-of-the-art fitness center.
We provide those amenities because we also expect them to do the work necessary to address the reasons behind their alcoholism. At Cornerstone, our alcoholism treatment is built on the concept that abstinence doesn't equal sobriety, because an individual's drinking problem is often tied up around issues, traumas, family struggles and life events that lead them to alcohol as a way to cope. At Cornerstone, we help them understand that to address their alcoholism, they need to address those other factors and replace drinking with healthier coping mechanisms. We teach them to do that in one of our four alcoholism treatment programs, to which they'll transition after 3 to 5 days of safe, comfortable, medically supervised detox: Newcomers, for first-time patients new to the recovery process; Recovery Renewal, for individuals who have attempted to get sober previously through other alcohol rehab stays or recovery programs but have fallen victim to relapse; Young Adult, a more active program for men ages 18 to 26; and our unique Women's Program, a safe space for female clients to work on issues unique to their gender.
In addition, we provide one-on-one counseling, peer support groups, 12 Step facilitation, dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health issues, activity therapy, family therapy (including a weekend of joint classes, lectures and therapy groups with family members who travel to campus to take part) and much, much more. At Cornerstone, we're so much more than just another alcohol rehab — because sobriety is about so much more than just stopping. If you're a resident who lives in or near Chattanooga, and you're in need of alcoholism treatment, then you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to check us out. We're in network with most major commercial and private health insurance plans, and our Admissions team is always willing to talk your through your financial options so that you can put down the bottle and pick up a new way to live.
the first step to the rest of your life starts at cornerstone of recovery
It’s been our goal since 1989, when our founder, Bill Hood, leveraged everything he owned to open a small facility in a strip mall outside of Knoxville to give hope to the hopeless. As a former executive for a national company, he had lost it all before getting sober 10 years earlier, and he knew from personal experience how devastating alcoholism can be, and what an overwhelming need there was then — and still is — for alcoholism treatment in Tennessee.
At the time, Cornerstone of Recovery had beds for 18 patients and room for 22 staff members; now, we have more than 100 beds and roughly 250 staff members managing four distinct programs out of a four-facility campus on the banks of the Little River, just two hours north of Chattanooga near Knoxville.

What Is Involved With The Alcoholism Treatment Program?
The first step in the alcoholism treatment process is through Medical Detox, where patients are slowly and safely weaned from the booze that has ravaged their bodies, impaired their minds and destroyed their spirits. Our trained medical staff members monitor patients around the clock during a typical three- to five-day detox stay, and once the initial fog of alcoholism has lifted, we integrate those patients into a community of peers all working toward the same goal: relief from the disease that wants to claim their lives. Those peer groups include the following drug and alcohol rehab programs:
Newcomers Inpatient Program
Clinically, the Newcomers Residential Alcohol & Drug Rehab Program is inpatient based and typically lasts between 28 and 35 days, during which time our trained counselors and other professionals develop individual treatment plans for each patient according to needs, backgrounds and situations. During that process, patients participate in a 12-Step recovery.
Recovery Renewal Inpatient Program
Intensive residential inpatient program for those who have tried to stay clean in the past but been unsuccessful, even after exposure to an addiction treatment program and 12 step programs in the past. It’s designed to help patients target the triggers and issues that factor into their inability to stay clean and the factors that lead to a relapse
Young Adult Inpatient Program
Our Young Adult Residential rehab and recovery program is specifically structured for persons between the ages of 18 and 26. Understanding that this age group faces its own unique set of circumstances, our clinical staff focuses on developmental issues, behavior styles, and energy levels specific to the young adult.
Women Only Inpatient Program
Cornerstone recognizes that women face issues in addiction and alcoholism that are unique to them. Clinically, the Womens' Programs is inpatient based and typically lasts between 28 and 35 days, during which time therapies are carried out within the safe space of a women’s only program. Group therapy, individual counseling, activity therapy, acceptance/integration therapy – they’re all designed for both the individual and the gender.

What Happens Next?
Alcoholism treatment for Chattanooga residents, we’ve discovered through our decades of work in the field, has to be more than just the cessation of drinking. The alcohol is just a symptom of a much bigger problem, an internal one that can only be addressed through a dissection of emotional issues, stumbling blocks and life traps that keep alcoholics trapped in the vicious cycle of a disease that’s leading them down a ever-darker path toward an absolute finality. That journey can be halted, however, and new paths can be forged; through the long-term sobriety that’s the ultimate goal of all patients at Cornerstone of Recovery, those who seek our help can put their disease into remission and find a new way of life that’s more fulfilling and rewarding than they ever imagined.
