The health insurance company Cigna doesn't bestow its Center of Excellence designation on facilities likely — which means that if you live in or near Chattanooga, and you have benefits through Cigna, the two hour drive to Knoxville to get drug and alcohol treatment at Cornerstone of Recovery is one of the best options you'll find in the Southeast.

Cigna Substance Use Center of Excellence Near Chattanooga

Cornerstone of Recovery was established as a small addiction and alcoholism treatment facility in 1989, and over the next 30 years, we've grown into one of the most respected treatment centers in the country. During that time, we've provided substance abuse treatment to thousands of struggling addicts and alcoholics, many of whom came to us from Chattanooga, and our success has led to recognition by most major commercial and private insurance providers — including Cigna — that we're extremely good at what we do.

That's not a statement of pride; it's one of fact — because Cornerstone was founded by a recovering alcoholic, and today the majority of our staff members, from housekeeping to administration to the clinical team, are in recovery from addiction and alcoholism themselves. We believe very much that the therapeutic value of one addict helping another is without parallel, because it takes someone who's lived in the same misery and dereliction to help those who live there still out of that darkness and into the light. At Cornerstone, that journey begins in Medical Detox, where patients spend 3 to 5 days slowly and safely weaning off of alcohol and drugs. Afterward, they'll be assigned to one of four treatment track: Newcomers, for first-time treatment clients; Recovery Renewal, for those who have been to rehab in the past but haven't managed to stay clean and sober; Young Adult, for men ages 18 to 26; and our Women's Only Program, a place where female patients can gather in safety and unity.

While part of these programs, each patient will receive a robust regimen of traditional 12 Step-based treatment along with a broad array of scientific and psychological evidence-based tools, from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to trauma therapy to Activity Therapy. We'll schedule time for everyone in our state-of-the-art on campus fitness center to help heal the body as well as the mind; we'll set you up with family therapy sessions to rebuild connections with loved ones; we'll assess you for any dual diagnosis needs if you have co-occurring mental health issues like bipolar disorder. We'll make sure you're safe, comfortable and cared for, and we do it all from the confines of a 25 acre campus just outside of Knoxville that's been our home for the past three years.

Our commitment to recovering addicts and alcoholics — in Chattanooga and beyond, with a Cigna policy or any private insurance plan — goes back much further, however. For 30 years, we've helped change lives, and we can do the same with yours.

What Is Involved With The Alcoholism Treatment Programs?

When addiction and alcoholism have destroyed everything you have, are you really going to balk at leaving Chattanooga to find the best treatment available to get your life back? We think not, which is why calling Cornerstone and letting us put your Cigna health insurance policy to work getting you the help you need is the best decision you can make. At Cornerstone, we have three decades of experience working with addicts and alcoholics from all walks of life, and as part of our community, you'll discover that you're not alone. In addition to your peers who come from across the country to heal at Cornerstone, you'll meet the dedicated and compassionate staff members who are also on a journey of recovery, and whose experience can show you just how transformational it can be to shed the chains of drugs and alcohol, address the issues that drive you to return to them even in the face of negative consequences and return home to Chattanooga as a responsible, productive member of society.

Newcomers Inpatient Program

The Newcomers Program is exactly what the name implies: a treatment track for those who are just getting started on a recovery journey. They may not fully understand the nature of addiction, so we'll help educate them — but we'll also show them the need to address poor coping skills or life events that have contributed to their alcohol and drug use and need to be dealt with in order to move forward in a life free of chemical bondage.

Recovery Renewal Inpatient Program

Our Recovery Renewal Program was developed after we recognized a need for deeper work and more intense therapy by some addicts and alcoholics — many of whom had been to drug and alcohol rehab in the past, or worked a recovery program, but were unable to stay clean and sober. Whatever the reason for that might be, we'll help uncover it, we'll help address it, and we'll help those individuals move past them in order to find a life of permanent sobriety.

Young Adult Inpatient Program

Younger patients who are grouped together with older peers often find they can't relate. The pace of the treatment is sometimes too slow or tedious for their active bodies and restless minds. That's what led us to develop a Young Adult Program, designed specifically to meet the needs of men ages 18 to 26 — as well as a way to help them look to their futures through a vocational component to this treatment track developed specifically for young adults.

Women Only Inpatient Program

Female patients who make a decision to seek treatment for a drug and alcohol problem often find that their needs are unique, and that recovery can be difficult if they're forced to reconcile trauma and pain in the presence of their male counterparts. For that reason alone, we designed an exclusive Women's Only Program, which gives female patients a safe, nurturing group of other recovering women who inspire, encourage, nurture, lift up and help heal.

Recovery from addiction and alcoholism is a lifelong process, and we often say that drug and alcohol treatment isn't recovery — it's "discovery," of what it means to be an addict and an alcoholic and the ways to cope with that. One of those coping mechanisms is our Intensive Outpatient Program, which allows those clients who aren't ready to return home to Chattanooga to move into our Sober Living community and extend their treatment safety net through an additional two months of classes, therapies and counseling sessions for several hours a day. In addition, they'll be permitted to earn privileges that slowly allow them to re-acclimate back into society, so when the time comes and their ready to go back to Chattanooga, they've gotten the full measure of benefits from their Cigna plan, as well as the full arsenal of recovery tools that those of us at Cornerstone have to share.
