Cigna Substance Use Center of Excellence Near Asheville

Cornerstone has been a leader in the drug and alcohol treatment field since 1989, when we first opened our doors. Over the past three decades, we've grown in size — from 18 beds in the beginning to 172 now, on a four-facility campus located on 25 acres, where we moved in 2017. But we've also grown in reputation, and today we treat addicts and alcoholics seeking recovery from all over the country, including Asheville. And because of the success we've had in helping thousands since we first opened, we've developed close working relationships with all major private and commercial insurance providers, to the point that Cigna has designated Cornerstone as a Center of Excellence. It's distinction we're proud of, because at Cornerstone, recovery is about so much more than just ceasing the use of alcohol and drugs: It's about addressing the reasons addicts and alcoholics continue to use, even in the face of catastrophic consequences.

That recovery journey begins in Medical Detox, where for 3 to 5 days, patients are slowly, safely and comfortably withdrawn from drugs and alcohol. Afterward, they transition to one of our four residential inpatient programs: Newcomers, for those new to addiction and alcoholism recovery; Recovery Renewal, for individuals who can't seem to stay clean and sober despite previous drug and alcohol rehab attempts; Young Adult, for men ages 18 to 26; and Women's Only, our newest program for all female clients. Each patient will take part in peer support groups, one-on-one counseling, educational lectures, therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, exercise in our state-of-the-art fitness center, Activity Therapy that includes time at our on-campus ropes course, and much, much more.

At Cornerstone, we believe in a "whole person" approach to treatment — meaning that we address the needs of the body, mind, emotions and spirit in order to help those who suffer find a new way to live without the shackles of drugs and alcohol. For addicts and alcoholics living in the Asheville area, especially those with Cigna insurance, there is no better choice for help than us.

What Is Involved With The Alcoholism Treatment Programs?

At Cornerstone of Recovery, our commitment to our patients, our track record of proven success and our diverse array of therapeutic offerings are only the tip of what makes us the ideal drug and alcohol treatment center for individuals who live in Asheville and have a Cigna insurance policy. By far, one of the biggest differences Cornerstone can make in the lives of those who come to us for help is what's referred to in the recovery community as "the therapeutic value of one addict helping another." It's said that such a value is without parallel, and at Cornerstone, we agree: That's why the majority of our staff, from the licensed and credentialed therapists and administrators to the clinical counselors to the housekeepers, are all drawn from the local recovery community. Cornerstone was founded by a recovering alcoholic, and from the beginning, we've recognized that the connections forged with those who face the same battles we do is what makes a powerful difference in the treatment we offer.

Newcomers Inpatient Program

In our Newcomers Program, those who find themselves at the outset of their recovery journey will find both healing and hope. The former comes through peer support groups, individual counseling and a number of various therapeutic offerings; the latter comes about through the knowledge we impart about the medical and scientific origins of addiction. After 28 to 35 days, Newcomers patients come to understand that they're not "bad" people; they're sick, but we can help them get better.

Recovery Renewal Inpatient Program

In our Recovery Renewal Program, those who fall victim to relapse will find an opportunity to get back on their feet, dig deeper into their issues and build on a recovery foundation that relapse can't take away. A relapse isn't necessarily failure; it's a sign that something wasn't addressed, or that steps weren't taken. This program gives those individuals not just a "refresher" on recovery basics, but a deeper dive into therapies, tools and means of staying clean and sober for good.

Young Adult Inpatient Program

In our Young Adult Program, we offer a more active course of treatment designed specifically for men ages 18 to 26. That particular demographic needs more physical activity to channel youthful energy, as well as a peer support group of individuals similar in age in order to feel a sense of connection. This program provides both, in addition to a vocational component that allows them to heal from their past while looking ahead to a future that doesn't include alcohol and drugs.

Women Only Inpatient Program

Our Women's Only Program was conceived in 2017, when we moved to our new facility. Prior to that time, therapy groups were co-educational, but the move gave us more space to create a unique, female-centric program that allows women who suffer from addiction and alcoholism to process and heal from traumas, issues and problems that are complicated by the presence of men. It's one of our most powerful groups, and the women who take part in it leave empowered and confident.

After completing residential inpatient, individuals who come to Cornerstone from Asheville to receive drug and alcohol treatment through their Cigna insurance policy have a decision to make: Do they feel prepared enough to return home, or do they need an extension of the treatment safety net? If they choose the latter, they can enroll in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which meets four days a week for three hours each day, while staying in our Sober Living community and slowly integrating back into the "real" world. It's a way of easing the transition back to reality, of firming up the footing of one's recovery and of continuing the work that begins in residential treatment. Recovery is a lifelong process, but a firm foundation is essential to pursuing it after returning home to Asheville. IOP is a way of strengthening the habits that will sustain recovery back home, and we've found that it's often an essential component of the recovery process.
