Alcohol & Drug Rehab Programs North Carolina
It's not melodrama to say that there's a war taking place on the streets of North Carolina.
It's a life and death battle that's being waged in cities, towns and other states across America, and the Tarheel State is being ravaged like all the rest. On one side: addiction and alcoholism, which claimed more lives in 2017 alone than the entirety of the Vietnam War. In North Carolina, numbers by the National Institute on Drug Abuse reveal some sobering (no pun intended) statistics:
- In 2016, the death rate due to opioid-related overdoses was 15.4 people per 100,000 residents ... greater than the national average of 13.3 deaths per 100,000 people.
- In 2010, that rate was 8.1 deaths per 100,000 meaning that in six years, it almost doubled.
- From 2010 to 2016, the number of heroin-related deaths grew from 39 to 544, and the number of overdoses related to synthetic opioids skyrocketed as well, from 170 to 601 deaths.
- In 2018, 16.9 percent of the adult population of North Carolina reported binge drinking or chronic drinking in the past 30 days.
Let's face it: Those are some grim statistics. But the good news is that while this battle may be never ending, those who advocate for recovery from drugs and alcohol have a powerful ally on the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains. Cornerstone of Recovery is a residential treatment center located just outside of Knoxville, Tenn., that has been providing drug and alcohol treatment for 30 years to those seeking recovery.
the first step to the rest of your life starts at cornerstone of recovery
As one of the largest residential treatment facilities in in Tennessee, we're also one of the most respected in the industry. Our center offers a comprehensive spectrum of treatment, from safe, comfortable medical detox to residential inpatient to intensive outpatient, all built on a foundation of traditional 12 Step methods, holistic approaches to recovery and evidence-based therapeutic tools. At Cornerstone, we recognize that the substances to which patients are addicted is just a symptom of a much larger problem, and our whole-person approach to recovery involves addressing the issues, traumas and life traps that predate and are caused by addiction.
What Does Addiction Treatment Involve?
While there are no doubt many capable treatment programs in North Carolina, few offer the sort of comprehensive care you'll find at Cornerstone of Recovery. From the initial phone call to our trained and compassionate Admissions counselors, you'll be reassured that you're in the hands of individuals who have a keen understanding of what you're facing. Roughly 90 percent of our clinical staff, and as much as 50 percent of our administrative staff, are in long-term recovery from addiction and alcoholism themselves, because we believe wholeheartedly in the recovery mantra that "the therapeutic value of one addict helping another is without parallel."
Once you arrive, our Assessment and Orientation staff members will use your input to design a specific treatment plan for your stay. Your first stop on your recovery journey will be in medical detox, where our around-the-clock medical care will assure that your withdrawal is as safe and as comfortable as possible through the administration of detox medications. A three- to five-day detox stay is typical, after which time you'll transition into one of our four treatment programs:
Think of it as "basic training," without the drill sergeants and mandatory calisthenics. If you're going to fight back against a disease that's trying to kill you, then you need to know everything about it, and yourself, as possible. In addition to therapy, we impart a knowledge of the disease concept so that they have a better understanding of our core philosophy: that they're sick people, not bad people, and treatment involves healing, not an overhaul of morality.
Designed for men ages 18 to 26, it addresses life skills that may never have developed due to early onset addiction, as well as vocational therapy designed to help them make future plans for a life unencumbered by drugs.
For those who have been through treatment in the past but have been unable to sustain long-term recovery afterward because of chronic relapses. It's a more in-depth examination of life traps and core issues that may not have been previously addressed, so that moving forward, they can sustain their sobriety on a permanent basis.
Led by women, it's a program that gives females a sisterhood of support that's invaluable to their emergence as individuals far removed from the shadow of their former selves. A gender-specific program that includes all female patients, it's a nurturing, healing environment you'll be hard-pressed to find at any other facility.
In addition, our Intensive Outpatient Program provides an additional layer of safety for those who choose to stay on campus in our Sober Living facilities after completing residential treatment. Through continuing education classes and peer support groups, patients expand on their knowledge of their afflictions and grow their war chests to remain vigilant when they return to North Carolina.
Does Cornerstone Accept My Health Insurance?
Fighting a war costs money, and we fully recognize that few addicts and alcoholics are flush with cash. However, if you have commercial or private health insurance, chances are we're in network with your provider. We're an approved drug and alcohol treatment center by most health insurance companies, and because of federal guidelines, the behavioral health benefits provided by your plan must cover some of the treatment you need for medically recognized diseases like addiction and alcoholism.
To determine if your plan makes you eligible for treatment here at Cornerstone, call our trained admissions staff to start the process. And even if you don't have insurance, call us: We can talk you through your options, provide referrals to other facilities and generally assure you that you're not alone, and that there is hope for recovery.

What's The Next Step?
You may find yourself leery of leaving home to seek treatment for your problem, but ask yourself this: Isn't a long-term solution worth a short-term absence from home? If one of the best treatment centers in the nation offers residential addiction treatment, isn't it worth at least picking up the phone to find out how you might avail yourself of it? If the recovery programs here at Cornerstone sound like they might help you, don't you owe it to yourself and those you love to reach out for that help?
Our Admissions staff is standing by, 24 hours a day. That first phone call is the hardest, but we're waiting, hands out, for you to grab hold and pull yourself into the lifeboat. That war may be never ending, but your fight can be. Surrender is the key to recovery, and that can start here at Cornerstone.
Why Consider Leaving North Carolina For Treatment
No doubt, there are numerous treatment options in North Carolina, but at Cornerstone, we've know how difficult it can be to fix a mess of your own making when you can't lift yourself out of it. That doesn't mean you get to leave it behind for others to deal with; it simply means that by getting away to get better, you can return healthier and more stable, so that the solutions you learn at Cornerstone of Recovery can be applied to the wreckage of your disease.
At Cornerstone, we recognize that addiction treatment is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and by leaving North Carolina to cross the mountains, you can find peace that has long eluded you and may be hard to obtain when you're surrounded by the people, places and things so closely associated with your drinking and using.
