Alcohol & Drug Rehab That Accepts United Healthcare Asheville NC
On the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains, there's a place of refuge for addicts and alcoholics from Asheville seeking a better way of life. For those individuals who have a UnitedHealthcare private or commercial insurance plan, there's no better option for drug and alcohol treatment than Cornerstone of Recovery, which has been helping individuals — including many who live in or near Asheville — get sober and stay that way since 1989.
At the time, we started small: 18 beds and 22 staff members, but with a burning desire by our founder to show anyone struggling with drugs and alcohol a way to stop using and drinking, lose the desire to do so and find a new way to live. Today, we're one of the largest residential treatment providers in Tennessee, located outside of Knoxville and operating out of a 25-acre campus that opened in 2017. We've grown tremendously, but the heartbeat of our treatment philosophy remains the same: that addicts and alcoholics aren't "bad" people who need to be "good," they're sick people who need to get better ... and they can do so, whether they come from down the street or from Asheville, here at Cornerstone of Recovery.
Their journey begins with safe, medically supervised detox, which helps them wean off of drugs and alcohol before they transition to one of our four primary treatment programs: Newcomers, for those seeking help for the first time; Recovery Renewal, for individuals who have previous drug and alcohol rehab experience or periods of sobriety but who have been unable to stay clean and sober; Young Adult, for men ages 18 to 26 who need a more active and vibrant treatment approach; and our unique Women's Only Program, a gender-specific safe harbor for all of our female clients. Within those programs, patients will discover a comprehensive, full continuum of care that helps them do so much more than simply put down the drugs and alcohol. From therapies like Cognitive Processing Therapy to Acceptance and Integrative Training ... from family therapy that includes loved ones in the healing process to psychiatric services for co-occurring mental health issues like bipolar disorder ... from physical exercise in our state-of-the-art fitness center to three hot meals a day in our dining hall ... we offer the best drug and alcohol treatment that private and commercial insurance — including United Healthcare — can provide.
At Cornerstone, we're in network with most of those plans, and we've been a long-time provider of care for UHC policyholders for years. Our goal is to help you find a way out of the darkness that has enveloped you because of addiction and alcoholism, so that you can return home to Asheville as responsible, productive members of society.

Newcomers Inpatient Program
No one starts out using drugs or drinking alcohol with the intention of becoming an addict or an alcoholic ... but it happens, and when it does, those afflicted often find themselves confused, defeated and with no idea of how to start getting better. That's where our Newcomers Program comes in: Designed for those who are getting clean and sober for the first time, it's a therapeutic and educational treatment track designed to promote both understanding and healing.
Recovery Renewal Inpatient Program
In the Recovery Renewal Program, we take in the individuals who have tried drug and alcohol treatment in the past, or been involved in recovery programs, but have been unable to maintain sobriety. Those patients often feel defeated and like recovery is a pointless endeavor, but our unique program shows them otherwise, through addressing issues that may have been previously ignored and therapy that gets to the root of the revolving door cycle of relapse.
Young Adult Inpatient Program
When young people start experimenting with drugs and alcohol as teens, their lives can be upended before they know it. Casual use sometimes lead to serious addiction within a matter of years, and suddenly their futures are in jeopardy. In our Young Adult Program, designed for men ages 18 to 26, we provide emotional and vocational therapy to help them overcome their addiction and return their focus to what they want to do with the rest of their lives.
Women Only Inpatient Program
Women who become addicts and alcoholics often face a unique set of challenges when it comes to recovery: How to deal with issues and traumas specific to their gender in a program where men can make the process more difficult. In our unique Women's Only Program, all of our female patients are combined into a single therapeutic unit, led by female counselors and therapists who help them create a safe space of support, empowerment and healing.
Once residential treatment is complete, those who live in or near Asheville often face a dilemma: Return home or not? For some, they're ready to do so, and we'll do everything we can to help make that transition easier. We'll work with their UnitedHealthcare plan to set them up with any post-treatment therapy they may need and provide them with Asheville-based recovery resources, and we'll always be available for follow-up care. Others, however, need an extension of the treatment safety line, and that's where our Intensive Outpatient program comes in. For several hours a day, four days a week, they can continue to attend groups, live in our Sober Living community and slowly transition back to the "real world" before they return home to Western North Carolina. It's another way we help those struggling to overcome addiction find their place as confident and serene recovering individuals who can stay clean and sober for the rest of their lives, if they so choose.
